Explore a range of curriculum-linked topics, on days specifically for home educators!

Calling all home educators – you asked and we heard! That’s right, we’re bringing back our popular home education days!

On four set dates throughout 2024 you can join us and enjoy our 50 minute curriculum-linked education workshops. The day will also include 45 minute Dudley Underground Experience boat trips, and one of our exciting and informative self-guided trails.

Please note that lunch is not included in the ticket price, but you are more than welcome to bring along a packed lunch or purchase food and drink from our Gongoozler Cafe Restaurant (closed on Mondays in November).

Monday 8th July – Watery Wildlife – SOLD OUT

10am – approx 1pm

Ideal for Early Years and KS1

What animals live near the canals? Where do the animals live and what are the different kinds of habitats along the canal? What do animals eat?

Explore the natural world around our inland water ways right next to our very own canal. From the tiniest of bugs to some of the biggest birds in Britain, lots of animals call the canals their home and you can learn all about them in our Watery Wildlife Workshop.

 

Monday 16th September – Sedimentary Rocks and Fossils – SOLD OUT

10am – approx 1pm

Ideal for KS2 and KS3

How do we know what a dinosaur looked like? What lived in the oceans here millions of years ago?

Discover how we know what was going on millions of years ago in this fun interactive session.

Getting hands-on with objects that are hundreds of millions of years old, students explore the different types on sedimentary rocks and fossils found in the Midlands and learn the importance of what lies beneath our feet to industry, academics and our daily life.

 

Monday 7th October – Life on a Working Boat – SOLD OUT

10am – approx 1pm

Ideal for KS1 and KS2

What was it like to live on a canal boat? Discover how boat people worked and lived on canal boats in this social history session.

Students will explore the lives of the people who lived and worked on the working boats, including the importance of roses and castles painting and the practical and decorative uses of their unique objects. Our team will guide you around our very own historic boat, Sagitta.

 

Monday 11th November  – Black Country Canals and Industry – SOLD OUT

10am – approx 1pm

Ideal for KS1, KS2 and KS3

Why were the canals built? And why was the Black Country so important to the Industrial Revolution? Discover the answers to these questions and more in this introductory session.

Students explore the science and social history that lead to the Black Country developing as such a vital part of the nation’s industry in the 1700s and 1800s. Using handling collections and practical activities, our team will guide your students through this introduction to the importance of the Black Country Region.
